French vinyard with grapes on the vine

We had an amazing experience on this cruise with AmaWaterways.  It was a designated ‘wine’ cruise where we learned so much about wines, how to drink, and how to pair with food and desserts.  We drank a lot of wine!

Our cruise was on the Rhone River in Southern France.  We booked the pre-cruise in Barcelona and absolutely loved it.  Barcelona is a beautiful city, quite easy to walk, and has the most spectacular Basilica—La Sagrada Familia.  I highly recommend a tour to learn the history but be sure to take the time to walk around by yourself, too.

A transfer to the ship in Avignon was part of the pre-cruise package, so we went from Barcelona to Avignon via coach.  Our ship was the AmaDulce and we had a very nice stateroom with a balcony.

We took walking tours in each of the towns that we visited.  Most of the other activities revolved around wine—winery visits, wine tasting, learning to pair the food we ate with a wine.  It was such a nice time and very educational.  I drank so much wine—way more than I do at home!

Our cruise ended in Lyon.  I had arranged for us to stay for a couple extra nights so we could explore a new city.  It rained all day on our full day in Lyon!  We left the next day and were glad to get home.

We love traveling and experiencing new places and thing, but we are always thankful to go home.
